Independent. Experienced. Integrity.

About Me.

My name is Julie Thrower, and I'm asking for your vote for Valley County Commissioner. Ten years ago, my husband and I traded a high-pressure, fast-paced life in the San Francisco Bay Area for the open spaces, mountains, and endless recreation of Valley County — a place where our two kids could grow up outdoors, surrounded by down-to-earth people who are genuinely connected to the land they live on. What began as a search for a different way of life became home in every sense of the word. I've spent the past decade serving this community — on the McCall City Council and as an attorney working on the land use and environmental issues that will shape our county's future. I'm running as an Independent because I believe Valley County deserves leadership that answers only to its people: independent leadership, proven experience, and steadfast integrity.

Independent Leadership

My only allegiance is to the people of Valley County — not to a political party, not to moneyed special interests, and not to out-of-state developers looking to cash in on the place we call home. I'll weigh every decision on its merits and vote for what serves this county best, no matter where the idea comes from. That independence extends to the Statehouse: when the legislature shifts costs onto our county or chips away at local control, I'll fight for our right to make our own decisions here at home — and because I'll owe this seat to no one but you, I will do that without hesitation.

Proven Experience

By election day, I will have served five years on the McCall City Council, where I'm now in my second term doing the practical work of local government: budgets, infrastructure, public services, and planning for growth. As an attorney specializing in environmental, land use, and zoning law, I've built my career on the very issues that will define Valley County's future. And with a Ph.D. in the sciences, I have the training to master the technical information and complex issues that come before the Commission. I won't need on-the-job training. I'm ready to lead on day one.

Steadfast Integrity

My integrity shows in the choices I've made throughout my career. I devoted ten years to public service as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, and in my private practice today I represent only plaintiffs — ordinary people standing up for their rights — never the powerful interests on the other side of the table. Ten years ago, I chose Valley County as my home, and I've spent that time demonstrating my commitment through service, not just words. As your commissioner, you'll always know where I stand and why: I'll make decisions in the open, explain my reasoning, and answer to you.
